Broadcast.com

Broadcast.com was one of the first internet streaming services, founded in 1995 by Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner to stream live audio and video content online. The company pioneered internet broadcasting by hosting the first major webcast (Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 1999) and streaming content from 448 radio stations and 65 television stations.

Why Broadcast.com Matters

Broadcast.com established the technical and business foundation for modern streaming services like Netflix and Spotify, proving that internet-delivered media was commercially viable years before broadband was widespread. Cuban's $5.7 billion sale to Yahoo in 1999 demonstrated the massive potential of streaming technology, though it was ultimately "ahead of its time" for the technology constraints of the era.
