Install and Set Up Moonvine
Slack membership is not Moonvine data access. Set up people and shared channels deliberately before inviting the team in.

1. Install the app in the Slack workspace
A Slack workspace admin installs Moonvine and approves the requested scopes. Moonvine uses Slack event and interaction context only to receive an authorized request, respond in the right place, support App Home actions, and preserve an explicit research handoff.
Moonvine needs direct-message and mention events to respond, plus the interaction permission required for buttons and modals. It does not search arbitrary workspace conversations.
2. Link each person to Moonvine
A Slack identity must map to a Moonvine person and role before Moonvine can retrieve client evidence. This is what prevents someone who can see an app in Slack from automatically seeing every client account in Moonvine.
For each person, confirm their authorized accounts or portfolio in Moonvine. Superadmin is an internal Moonvine role, not a permission that spreads to everyone in a Slack workspace.
3. Start with private DMs
A Moonvine DM is private to the linked Moonvine user. It is the default place to ask about an account, test a workflow, build a report brief, or inspect an alert. The DM does not make the user’s account access visible to other Slack members.
4. Configure a shared channel only when it has a clear scope
Adding Moonvine to a channel does not grant the channel’s members broader access. A shared channel must be configured for a specific account or portfolio, with an approved access tier. Moonvine checks both the person and the configured channel scope on every request.
Use a shared channel when a team needs a common research case: a launch room, account team, or client-approved working channel. Keep private client work in DMs or Moonvine web.
5. Confirm the first two routes
- Send Moonvine a private DM with a question about an account you are authorized to see.
- In an approved channel, mention @Moonvine with a scoped research question.
Both should return a concise answer or a specific explanation of the missing evidence. If a request is blocked, treat that as a scope or connection issue to resolve in Moonvine, not a reason to copy data into Slack.
✓ Setup is complete when
- The Slack app is installed and its event and interaction URLs are verified.
- Each active person has a linked Moonvine identity.
- DM research works for an authorized account.
- Every shared channel has an explicit account or portfolio scope.
